UMD Black Takes the Crown at Noxide's First Collegiate Rocket League Showmatch
On Friday, October 2, six college teams from across Maryland took the stage at Noxide Esports in Columbia for our first Collegiate Rocket League Showmatch. When the last goal went in, UMD Black stood as champions.
It was a night of big plays, loud stands, and a glimpse of what collegiate esports in Maryland can look like. Here's how it went.
Six schools, one stage
Six teams brought their best to the Noxide arena:
University of Maryland Black
University of Maryland Academy
UMBC
Towson University
Loyola University Maryland
Howard University
Players in school jerseys lined up at the stations, three big screens carried every match above the stage, and the casters called the action from the production desk.
UMD Black takes the title
Congratulations to UMD Black, our first collegiate Rocket League champions.
They didn't get there easily. Howard University made UMD Black earn every single goal, and it was the best Rocket League we've seen on our stage. Huge respect to Howard for pushing the champs all the way.
A real arena night
To the friends and family who filled the stands and cheered on their teams: thank you. You turned a showmatch into a real arena night, and the players felt it.
This is just the beginning
We're building Maryland's esports leagues, with colleges and universities as the backbone. This showmatch was our first step, and more collegiate events are already in the works.
